IN PROGRESS
in an apartment on the top floor i held myself against the cold, shivering & sick w/out sleep or satisfactions so the next afternoon i might nap in the treetops while everyone else enjoyed the summer so i might listen as their voices rose up like smoke so i might position their words in my worlds of sleep
i put my body in the river like a rock fully clothed & drenched w/sweat, i...

REJECT THE REJECTERS
the doorman at my office building doesn’t do his job very well. i don’t mind at all. he’s the busiest old man i’ve ever known… he sits there typing up manifesto-length columns from scraps of blue paper, which he fills w/scribble while drinking irish coffees in all the dingy bars at night. he mails these to places like the new york times & the s.francisco...

I COULD SLEEP THROUGH A WORLD WAR this camera died a spectacular death last summer. recently the hardware blinked back into existence, creating some sort of zombie camera. i can use it again… but i don’t trust it anymore. (via vimeo)

PARAGRAPHS FROM A NOVEL I'LL NEVER FINISH
The next morning, sunlight brought me out of bed, into the streets before noon. I stopped at the corner store for cigarettes and a newspaper, which were placed in a plastic bag and pushed across the dirty counter without a word. I thanked the clerk, a Chinese man with bleary eyes set on a small television near the register. He didn’t say a thing or nod or look from the screen. A few moments later...

TRAGEDY + COMEDY = PEACE OF MIND
epic cities w/canyon streets like these echo day & night w/the sound of a thousand tragic things… you do not hear the wind, you hear sirens. you don’t fall asleep in silence, you sleep to sirens. you eat & drink, read & watch films, you shower & shave to sirens. & w/that in mind, i propose the following:
A CITY CLOWN BRIGADE w/sirens blaring, the CCB would speed...

THE (CODED) MORAL OF A (TRUE) STORY
i step into a bagel shop on mission this morning for breakfast. inside it’s quiet w/cups & napkins stacked neatly along the counter & several people standing around waiting for their number to be called.
i’m ordering an egg & cheese sandwich on a jalapeño bagel when something clubs me from behind. i turn around to find a sunburnt man w/eyes like a rabid squirrel....

3:02 AM
today i listened to beethoven’s symphonies in order, one to nine. i played them very loud & the whole shebang lasted some five & a half hours. afterward i went out w/a fine coffee & walked it off. tomorrow i’m going to do that again.
